Healing Our Healthcare Heroes
The staff at San Mateo Medical Center and its Clinics works countless hours to keep our community healthy, and their daily stresses can be overwhelming. The Healing Our Healthcare Heroes program gives healthcare workers experiencing acute stress a boost with much needed resources and tools to manage their overall well-being. Thanks to the generous support of the Sand Hill Foundation, we’ve been able to host this program for several years – bringing together hundreds of participants for an inspiring and immersive three-day retreat.
No sessions have been scheduled for 2026, but please stay tuned for updates.
WHAT IS THE HEALING OUR HEALTHCARE HEROES PROGRAM?
San Mateo County Health Foundation is honored to partner with the 1440 Foundation to provide this transformative journey designed to foster well-being through holistic healing in the healthcare field. This complementary two-part healing program offers healthcare professionals a chance to rejuvenate, reconnect, and find solace from the daily pressures they face.
Part 1 will take place over 3 days at the 501(c)(3) nonprofit 1440 Multiversity 75-acre campus nestled among the Santa Cruz mountains. After Part 1, all participants will receive an additional year of support and tools courtesy of our friends at 1440.
PART 1
Part 1 provides healthcare workers access to information, skills, and tools to help care for their own mental health, support their families, and help their colleagues. Daily faculty content sessions focus on topics born out of significant healthcare provider concerns:
- Trauma, Stress, and Resilience
- Moral Injury/Moral Distress Recognition
- Nutrition and the Immune System
- Grief and Healing
- Hope: Journey to Joy and Growth
PART 2
Upon leaving campus, participants will have the opportunity to further their learning in a supportive online community. Examples of the curriculum and learning tools include webinar and podcast series from accredited experts, mindfulness apps to help stay centered, and Healthcare Conference access. 1440 will continue to develop the online curricula based on the needs that arise both from the program and global conditions that are impacting healthcare workers.
GUIDELINES FOR STAFF INTERESTED IN ATTENDING
- Eligibility: Open only to those who have not attended a previous session
- Application: SMMC staff must apply with a referral email from their direct supervisor
- Capacity: Spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis
- Cost: Free for staff
- Inclusions: Covers lodging, food, and curriculum
- How to apply
1. Contact Your Supervisor: Speak to your direct supervisor promptly, as spots fill quickly
2. Referral Email: Ask your supervisor to send a referral email to Dana Floro / c_dfloro@smcgov.org
3. Confirmation: The Foundation will provide further details once they receive your referral
