Breast Health Excellence: San Mateo County Health Foundation collaborates closely with San Mateo Medical Center to provide the best possible breast cancer information and diagnostic tools for underserved residents. In 2014, the Medical Center made significant strides with digital mammography but the changing healthcare landscape now deems 3D imaging the industry standard. With our commitment to leading-edge care, our goal is to implement 3D imaging to enhance diagnostic accuracy and improve our patients’ lives.
Elevating Care: Join us in October, where your contributions will help upgrade two 2D mammography machines to 3D technology, capable of detecting 20-65% more invasive breast cancers than 2D alone, with an average increase of 41%. Your gift isn’t just a donation; it’s a chance to save lives.

Keynote Speaker, Sarafina Nance
Sarafina Nance is an astrophysicist, analog astronaut, author, speaker, and science communicator. She holds several degrees in physics and astronomy and is a passionate women’s health advocate.
Diagnosed with the cancer-causing BRCA gene mutation in her early 20’s, she chose to have a preventative double-mastectomy at age 26 to lower her extremely high risk of breast cancer (87%). She has been an outspoken figure in women’s health advocacy efforts and is vocal about her journey, as well as the importance of genetic testing, self-checks, and preventative medicine.
