Tackling Food Insecurity Across San Mateo County
Food insecurity isn’t just about hunger—it’s about the uncertainty of having enough nutritious food or the struggle to access it in a sustainable and dignified way. For those experiencing food insecurity, it can mean skipping meals, going days without eating, or constantly worrying about where the next meal will come from.
Our Food Farmacy is changing that. Through this program, we provide safe, healthy, and fresh food to hundreds of families across San Mateo County every week.
What started as a humble food cart has flourished, thanks to our collaboration with Samaritan House. Today, the Food Farmacy distributes nearly 1,100 food packages each week to six key locations, including the Foundation office and San Mateo Medical Center clinics in Daly City, Half Moon Bay, Redwood City, San Mateo, and South San Francisco. Each package is thoughtfully curated to include fresh produce, dairy, eggs, and pantry staples like rice, grains, pasta, and canned goods—essentials for balanced meals.
