Mark your calendars, #GivingTuesday is November 27th 2018!

In 2010 the San Mateo County Health Foundation made the Bundle of Joy Program a funding priority. Since then more than 7,000 new infants and their parents have benefitted from this program.

This year all proceeds from #GivingTuesday will support the Bundle of Joy Program. The San Mateo County Health Foundation in partnership with San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) launched the Bundle of Joy Program to assist expectant parents as they begin the journey of starting or adding to their family.

Phase One begins when the expectant mother has her first prenatal appointment at one of San Medical Center’s OB/GYN clinics. At that first visit the expectant mother receives a copy of “Prenatal Care Lasts a Lifetime” written by Tracy Butler, CNM and Mary Ramirez, NP San Mateo Medical Center nurses. This prenatal guide, written in both English and Spanish, details events and experiences the expectant mother may encounter in the months leading up to and after the baby is born.

Phase Two begins when the mother brings the newborn in for his/her first baby wellness exam at one San Mateo Medical Center’s five Pediatric Clinics. At the end of the baby wellness exam the new mother/parents is presented with a reusable baby bag filled with diapers, clothing, toys and other essential baby items all donated by generous donors committed to making a difference in our community.

Phase Three of the program – New Born Care 101. New Born Care 101 teaches the basics of how to care for their newborn such as – why the baby cries; crib safety; feeding and nutrition; and well-baby appointments.

This global movement unites countries around the world by sharing our capacity to care for and empower one another.
