Honoring Our Past
San Mateo County Health Foundation was established in 1989 by a group of four very active community leaders and volunteers, all concerned with how the vulnerable residents of San Mateo County would access affordable healthcare. Anna Eshoo, now Congresswoman, was a consensus builder who fought for access to healthcare for families and children; Margaret Taylor, a newly appointed assistant director in the San Mateo County Health Services Agency was concerned about the new health crisis she was seeing HIV AIDS); Evelyn Stanton, for more than 40 years volunteered at the local, state and national level before becoming Executive Director of Mental Health Association (MHA); and Linda Gregory, a union activist. These four women advocated on behalf of the vulnerable and convinced an individual to fund what is now the San Mateo County Health Foundation.
On Friday, September 14, 2018 Congresswoman Anna Eshoo and Margert Taylor, two of the founders visited the San Mateo Medical Center Hospital and clinics. As we move forward our goal is to continue the work of these incredible women by providing strategic and responsive funding for programs and services that enhance the health of our community.
